Databind Pty Ltd commenced operations on May 31 st 1996 as a direct retail business named Databind.
The entire business was established with a financial investment of AUD $1,000. It’s primary objective was to supply document finishing equipment, laminating machines, binding systems, paper shredders and related consumables.
It’s secondary objective was to supply on-site technical repairs and servicing utilising sub-contract, factory trained personnel.
Limited funding in a competitive market place made operations extremely difficult in the early days.
With the market rapidly changing, we came to realise, that if the Company was to survive in this environment, the development of a new and unique product was required. This was somewhat challenging, as the luxury of a R&D department in a small enterprise was unaffordable.
Whilst establishing a relationship with Kodak Australasia, the two directors estimated the volume of photographic sales on a worldwide scale. They believed that some 80 Billion Photographs were taken annually. No internet then! With that knowledge, they set about researching propriety products, which would take advantage of this enormous market. After several months of investigation, one director noticed the display effect of a magnetic backed photograph.
The discovery, which was by no means new, motivated them to design and create a system, which would bring both photographs and self-adhesive magnetic sheets together simultaneously. The difficulty in achieving this simply, reliably and affordably, without the reliance on electrical energy became frustrating. As with many good ideas, endless trials were conducted, when finally a successful method was discovered. Of course by accident!
With the new product tested and packaged, the two Directors set about assessing market acceptance, measuring responses to quality and pricing. It was soon discovered many potential buyers wanted to place orders.
Whilst in this research phase, a number of potential customers indicated their need for a smaller version that would magnetise the standard business card. This was a brilliant discovery, as it was almost impossible to estimate the number of business cards produced on a global scale.
The increase in demand forced the two collaborates to form Databind Pty Ltd. We have thoroughly enjoyed the products & success and it has taken us internationally. Inquiries are still taken for our unique product, along with many repeat orders. The market for our product is endless. Just about any business can utilise our system without limitations such as space, electrical source or the concern for breakdowns and repairs.
